Interim
Committee initiative meeting held on the 8th
December 2008, at Persephone Park Hout Bay
Representatives of James House,
Persephone Institute of Psychophonetics and Envirochild,
met on the 8th of December for an initial phase
of the initiative to create a ‘Hout Bay Youth Forum’ in the
valley of Hout Bay. With the hope that by the beginning of
2009 many other organizations and groups contributing to
youth welfare and development in Hout Bay will join us.
We believe that together we can achieve much
more than in our separated operations. We believe that in
creating one representative body of professionals we can
maximise
the fruitfulness of our combined know how, resources, good
will and common vision for the advancements of all the youth
in Hout Bay.
We decided to call ourselves ‘Interim
Committee of Hout Bay Youth Forum’, and to call for a
meeting on 16th of February 2009 to all youth
work contributors for an initial ‘Hout Bay Youth Forum’ to
be established.
In the February inaugural meeting we hope to
be able to provide a meeting opportunity for most, if not
all, contributors to youth services in Hout Bay, to get to
know each other and our respective works, expertise and
projects. To that meeting we hope to be able to present a
draft directory of all existing services, to be completed by
the participants, and an initial draft needs survey of youth
in the area.
In that meeting the initial permanent
structure will be agreed upon, allocations of tasks and
responsibilities, schedule for future meetings, connections
to government bodies and the form of publicity to present
the new forum.
We concluded with 3 needed phases in order to
commence with the project:
1.
To call for Hout Bay Youth Forum gathering on
the 16th of February 2009 at Persephone
Institute, Persephone Park, 25 Riverside Terrace, Hout Bay.
2.
To create ‘Hout Bay Youth Services Directory’
in which to list all the organisations, activities and
services available to youth in the valley.
3.
To conduct a ‘Hout Bay Youth Needs Survey’
with the hoped for support of the Department of Social
Development, mapping out the various needs for various
services for youth in Hout Bay.
We are asking for the expressions of interest
and contributions regarding the 3 above initial phases as
well as:
1.
Suggestions for possible participants in the
initial meeting of the forum, preferably leaders on decision
making levels in organizations and groups with dedicated
activity directed at the youth in Hout Bay.
-
Items to be listed in the Hout Bay Youth
Services Directory, including names of organizations,
short description of organisations purpose, tasks and
projects, location, contact details, emails and
websites, and key personnel on management level.
