.

There are lots of ways to get involved in the starting phase,
but we're hoping the whole community will see this as a co-creative project
and come up with ways to expand it and add new ideas, projects and solutions.
It's an evolving, ever growing concept.

It will take all of us together – entrepreneurs, housewives, parents, engineers, inventors, builders, doctors, community leaders, teachers, artists, healers – EVERYONE – bringing their skills, talents and experience to bear.

We want as many people as possible to participate in 'transitioning' Hout Bay, and for everyone involved to find something which brings enjoyment and satisfaction.

There is no precedent for this initiative so we have to explore the best ways to do things every step of the way.

Here are some of the ways you can take part in this fascinating and important exploration. If you can't find what you want please contact us to discuss your idea.

So what can I actually do?

  • Join our online discussion - go to the Blog
This is a discussion board where issues get debated, events get listed and and new developments get posted. Add your opinion, constructive ideas, etc

  • Keep yourself informed of the real issues happening in your suburb and the major green/sustainability/health issues in both South Africa and the world. Take a stand on what you believe in.

  • Help get the word out - that we're turning Hout Bay into a sustainable suburb that works! Tell your friends about the website and encourage participation.

  • Go Green. Turn your household into an energy conscious, green friendly home, that explores ways to reuse and conserve water, recycles all waste, finds energy saving options and grows organic veggies. You'll be really glad you did and you'll spread awareness to your friends and neighbours

  • Come to our monthly meetings  - join in and have your say. See the Blog for dates

  • Sponsor our projects by making a donation, or joining envirochild

  • Consider sponsoring a person from a community empowerment group to go on a food growing course. Contact Talfryn

  • Advertise on our website. Promote your 'green' or 'community' related company/product/services/shop/restaurant on our website.

  • If you have a special interest or passion - Join a project team. . . See a list of current projects on the left. Or start a new theme group or project. Contact Talfryn to discuss ideas

  • If you have time - Help out at events. Offer your skills. Help us publicise our activities.Contact Danielle to find out more.

  • Offer something to a sharing project. For example - perhaps you have land you don't use, that could be put to good use for growing vegetables and fruit trees?  Perhaps you have tools you don't mind lending out to needy projects. Let us know

  • If there’s something you want Have a look at the projects and see if there’s one that’s relevant. For instance, if you want access to a car , you might like to start a car share group; or if you want to grow something and have no garden. join the garden share project  Contact Kirsten

  • Visit some of the community project websites and see what they need: Ikaya le Themba
