Our fundamental belief is that we all inevitably
face enormous economic and environmental challenges
over the next few decades, and that we need to learn
together as communities how best to step forward
into that future.
The status quo is not a model
that will be able to serve any of us for much
longer.
Aims of envirochild
-
to promote environmental consciousness and
education in children and young adults, and by
extension, in communities, corporations and
government
-
to promote localisation of services, food
production, and resource usage
-
to elevate the concept of social responsibility and
community awareness
-
to teach skills to young people that will help to
mitigate effects of impending environmental and
economic crises
-
to create local employment in environmentally
sustainable industries
-
to reduce our environmental footprint
-
to seek innovative and creative solutions to some
of the most pressing issues of our times
-
to promote an explosion of awareness of our
perilous disregard for our planet's health
Fundamental principles of
envirochild
- We view the health of our
environment, our only home, as sacrosanct
- We operate in an absolutely
transparent way
- We grow and advance as a team by
consensus
- We aim
to be bold even in the face of
adversity
- We don't let ideology weaken our grip
on reality
- We
endeavour to maintain our sense of humour at all times :)
How can
envirochild
be a vehicle to achieve the above?
The basic idea of envirochild is that it functions
as a conduit for the flow of funds from corporate,
NGO or state organisations, to projects that will
help achieve the above aims.
All donations much appreciated
and will be put to good use

Who are envirochild?
We are a
voluntary group of people with a passion to achieve
these aims, whether employed by envirochild or
voluntary - perhaps a dozen talented and
enthusiastic Hout Bay residents to begin with, envisaged to
rapidly grow to many hundreds and more. We have the spirit
and energy to turn the dream that "we can find a
better way" into reality. Let's at least do this for our
children. That is the very least they will expect
of us. See Contacts
for names, and email addresses.
How does
envirochild
plan to achieve its aims?
The initial focus will be on taking
the initiative to encourage Hout Bay to become a
Transition Town and provide an umbrella for the many
amazing projects that are emerging in our suburb,
towards a more sustainable future.
One of our other points of focus will be
environmental education, by
fostering a respect for the environment through fun
and interactive educational programs.
